NRB has joined the highly ambitious Gaia-X project. This initiative supports the creation of sovereign and federated data infrastructure which can be deployed on a large scale, in accordance with European standards Including Data protection. The project aims to build a collaborative European data exchange platform representing more than 10% of the global data economy compared with 4% currently.
Gaia-X: a European frameworkf security, transparent and trust
Rather than developing a new technological offering, the aim is to create a European Union-wide ecosystem, around national hubs, based on existing infrastructures clouds, storage, computing capacity, network, etc.) and to put in place new approaches in terms of interconnections, security, etc. Thanks to this federated model and secured interoperability, stakeholder suppliers of Gaia-X will be able to offer greater access to data.
NRB, a resolutely forward-looking company
As a cloud service provider, NRB has decided to take part in Gaia-X’s five-year plan (2021-2025) leading to the creation of an exchange platform. It is a «bottom up» plan starting with infrastructure and automation, followed by the development of “data spaces” groupings of data by sector) and finally, AI to tackle the creation and development of the platform.
More than just being a member of Gaia-X, NRB is playing a decisive role on two levels:
- By being involved in the Structura-X pilot project alongside 28 cloud providers. This project aims to make cloud offerings (infrastructure and operation) compatible with the specifications of Gaia-X.
- By taking part in European and Belgian working groups, led by Agoria, the federation of the technological industry, with the support of the FPS (Federal Public Service) Economy and the FPS Policy and Support (BOSA).
The proactive participation of NRB in the creation of this ecosystem will help to build a Europe of more secure and transparent data. It also highlights its NECS 4 hybrid cloud offering and positions itself above all as a «super IT infrastructure provider», in accordance with its 2021-2026 strategic plan.
