The laptops of the two companies that have reached the "end of their working lives" will now be given a second life in education. This operation is being carried out in collaboration with Digital For Youth, an organisation whose aim is to provide all young Belgians with safe and easy access to ICT (Information and Communication Technologies).
After an extended leave, the return to school took place under the sign of distance and digital. Ethias wants to make its contribution by donating a batch of 175 PCs that are no longer adapted to the company's needs, to the pupils who will still need one before the end of the year. NRB, Ethias' ICT partner, is also contributing to this action by adding nearly 100 refurbished PCs from the computer park of NRB and its subsidiaries Xperthis and Civadis.
With this gesture, the two companies want to meet an urgent need that often results from the precarious situation in which many young students find themselves.
"Since the strengthening of health measures in Belgium, many young people are once again confronted with limited access to technology. As a result, they are more exposed to the risks of social isolation or falling behind in school. In collaboration with numerous partners, Digital For Youth's mission is to reduce this digital divide from which these young people suffer. We are therefore extremely pleased with this new partnership with Ethias and NRB and the 275 laptops that we will reconfigure for the benefit of young people in need. »
Jon Lambrecht, General Coordinator (Digital For Youth)
A small gesture, certainly, but one that takes on its full importance this year, when the lack of computer equipment or internet connection at home is jeopardising the schooling of a good number of pupils in precarious situations. Let us hope that this small gesture generates many smiles, and just as many opportunities to learn more serenely!
And Ethias does not stop there. The collaboration with Digital ForYouth, the organisation that puts these PCs back into service and distributes them, will continue in the long term. Starting today, all Ethias' old laptops will be donated to this organisation!
This societal and ecological management of electronic devices is part of the insurer's CSR policy. "Equitable access to quality education" is also part of the United Nations' "Sustainable Development Goals", which it supports. Ethias had already donated 1000 new PCs to education in Belgium earlier this year.
This is a new initiative to help society in the current health crisis. Recently, Ethias was rewarded for his initiatives by receiving the TophéeDECAVI Pandemic.
